General Knowledge from the Qur'aan al-Kariim

Nature of the Qur’aan al-Kariim

That is the Book, without any doubt. It contains guidance for those who guard against evil. {Surat al-Baqara 2, 2}

This is a communication to be transmitted to mankind so that they may be warned by it and so that they will know that He is One God and so that people of intelligence will pay heed. {Surah Ibrahim 14, 52}

We have made the Qur’aan easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there? {Surat al-Qamar 54, 17}

We have made the Qur’aan easy to remember, But is there any rememberer there? {Surat al-Qamar 54, 32}

There is instruction in their stories for people of intelligence. This is not a narration which has been invented but confirmation of all that came before, a clarification of everything, and a guidance and a mercy for people who believe. {Surah Yusuf 12, 111}

Will they not ponder the Qur’aan?...... {Surat an-Nisa 4, 82}

It is a Book We have sent down to you, full of blessing, so let people of intelligence ponder its Signs and take heed. {Surah Saad 38, 29}

A Messenger has been sent to every community

We have sent you with the truth bringing good news and giving warning.  There is no community to which a Warner has not come.  {Surah Fatir 35, 24}

We sent a Messenger among every people saying: ‘Worship Allaah and keep clear of all false gods.’  Among them were some whom Allaah guided but others received the misguidance they deserved.  Travel about the earth and see the final fate of the deniers.  {Surat an-Nahl 16, 36}

 We have never destroyed a city without giving it prior warning.  {Surat ash-shu’ara’ 26, 208}

Every community has been sent a Messenger speaking the language of its people

We have not sent any Messenger except with the language of his people so he can make things clear to them.  Allaah misguides anyone He wills and guides anyone He wills; He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.  {Surah Ibraahim 14, 4}

The Purpose of sending Prophets

We do not send the Messengers except to bring good news and to give warning. As for those who believe and put things right, they will feel no fear and will know no sorrow.  {Surat al-An’am 6, 48}

That was because their Lord would never have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were unaware.  {Surat al-An’am 6, 131}

We only sent you for the whole of mankind, bringing good news and giving warning. But most of mankind do not know it. {Surah Saba 34, 28}

Messengers bringing good news are giving warning, so that people will have no argument against Allaah after the coming of the Messengers. Allaah is Almighty, All-Wise. {Surat an-Nisa’ 4, 165}

Asma-ul-Husna {The Beautiful Names of Allaahu ta’aalaa {jalla jal

Bismi’llaahi ‘r-rahmaani ‘r-rahiim

Assalatu was’salaamu alaika Yaa Rasoollullaah! {sall'Allaahu ta'aalaa alaihi wa'sallam}

Asma-ul-Husna - The Beautiful Names of Allaahu ta’aalaa {jalla jalaaluhu}

Allaah is the proper name of God, however, we know Him generally through His attributes.  These attributes describe how Allaahu ta’aalaa manifests Him to us.  Allaahu ta’aalaa's attributes are innumerable since human intellect cannot possibly comprehend every aspect of the Supreme Being.  A Hadiith ash-shariif of the Holy Prophet {sall’Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} makes mention of Ninety Nine names of Allaahu ta’aalaa commonly known as Al-Asma-ul-Husna {the Most Beautiful Names}.

The essence of Islaam is to accept no deity except Allaahu ta’aalaa.  It is naturally important, then, to understand Allaahu ta’aalaa as precisely as possible within our limited abilities.  This understanding is to be based only on the Qur'aan al-kariim and Sunnah.   Our understanding of the Lord of the universe is to be derived from no other sources beyond these two.   We are not permitted to go beyond the description of Allaahu ta’aalaa contained in the Qur'aan al-kariim and Sunnah, and we are also not permitted to deny anything in them concerning Him.

It is not possible to perfectly translate the names and attributes of Allaahu ta’aalaa from their original Arabic into English.  However, here are some fairly close explanations.

In the Holy Qur’aan al-keriim we read:

“The most beautiful names belong to Allaah, so call on Him thereby.” {7:180}

"And to Allaah alone belong all perfect attributes.  So call Him by these. And leave alone those who deviate from the right way with respect to His Attributes." {7:181}

"Allaah - there is no God but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting and All-Sustaining.  Slumber seizes Him not, nor sleeps.  To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth.  Who is he that will intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He pleases.  His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth; and the care of them burdens Him not; and He is the High, the Great." {2:256}

"Allaah there is no god but Him! To Him belongs the Most Beautiful Names." {20:8}

Allaah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.  The similitude of His light is a lustrous niche, wherein is a lamp.  The lamp is in a glass.  The glass is as it were a glittering star.  It is lit from blessed tree - an olive - neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would well-nigh glow forth even though fire touched it not.  Light upon light! Allaah guides to His light whomsoever He will.  And Allaah sets forth parables to men, and Allaah know all things full well.  This light is now lit in houses with regard to which Allaah has ordained that they be exalted and that His name be remembered in them, Therein is He glorified in the mornings and the evenings {24:36-37}

"He is Allaah, and there is no God beside Him, the Knower of the unseen and the seen.  He is Gracious, the Merciful.  He is Allaah, and there is no God beside Him, the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace, the Bestower of Security, the Protector, the Mighty, the Subduer, the Exalted.  Holy is Allaah far above that which they associate with Him.  He is Allaah, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner.  His are the most Beautiful Names.  All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Mighty the Wise. {59: 23-25}

In the Hadiith ash-Shariif states:

Hadrat Abu Huraira {radiy’Allaahu ta’aalaa anhu} narrated: The Holy Prophet {sall’Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} said, "Allaahu ta’aalaa has ninety nine Names, one hundred less one; and who memorized them all by heart will enter Paradise." {Bukhari Shariif}

The Messenger of Allaahu ta’aalaa {sall’Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} said: 'There is nobody who is afflicted with distress or grief and who says:

"Allaahumma inni 'abduka wa ibn 'abdika wa ibn amatika, naasiyati bi yadika maadin fiyya hukmuka 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uka, as'aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw asta'tharta bihi fi 'ilmi al-ghaybi 'indaka an taj'al al-Qur'aana rabee'a qalbi wa noor sadri wa jilaa'a huzni wa dhihaaba hammi

{O Allaahu ta’aalaa, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is ever executed and Your decree over me is just.  I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or which you revealed in Your Book, or which You taught to any of Your creation, or which You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with You, that You make the Qur'aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety}

Allaahu ta’aalaa will take away his distress and grief, and replace it with ease.' He {sahaaba} was asked, 'O Messenger of Allaahu ta’aalaa, should we not learn it?' He said, 'Of course, whoever hears it should learn it'

Allaahu Dhikir

Allaah is the proper name of God, however, we know Him generally through His attributes. These attributes describe how Allaahu ta'aalaa manifests Himself to us. Allaahu ta'aalaa's attributes are innumerable since human intellect cannot possibly comprehend every aspect of the Supreme Being.  A Hadiith ash-shariif of the Holy Prophet {sall'Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} makes mention of Ninety Nine names of Allaahu ta'aalaa commonly known as Al-Asmaul Husna, the Most Beautiful Names.

In the Holy Qur’aan al-keriim we read:

“The most beautiful names belong to Allaah, so call on Him thereby.” {7:180}

"And to Allaah alone belong all perfect attributes.  So call Him by these.  And leave alone those who deviate from the right way with respect to His Attributes." {7:181}

"Allaah - there is no God but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting and All-Sustaining. Slumber seizes Him not, nor sleep. To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that will intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He pleases. His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth; and the care of them burdens Him not; and He is the High, the Great." {2:256}

Allaah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is a lustrous niche, wherein is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as it were a glittering star. It is lit from blessed tree - an olive - neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would well-nigh glow forth even though fire touched it not. Light upon light! Allaah guides to His light whomsoever He will. And Allaah sets forth parables to men, and Allaah know all things full well. This light is now lit in houses with regard to which Allaah has ordained that they be exalted and that His name be remembered in them, Therein is He glorified in the mornings and the evenings {24:36-37}

"He is Allaah, and there is no God beside Him, the Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is Gracious, the Merciful. He is Allaah, and there is no God beside Him, the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace, the Bestower of Security, the Protector, the Mighty, the Subduer, the Exalted. Holy is Allaah far above that which they associate with Him. He is Allaah, the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner. His are the most Beautiful Names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Mighty the Wise. {59: 23-25}

In the Hadiith ash-Shariif states:

Hadrat Abu Huraira {radiy’Allaahu ta’aalaa anhu} narrated: The Holy Prophet {sall’Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} said, "Allaahu ta’aalaa has ninety nine Names, one hundred less one; and who memorized them all by heart will enter Paradise." {Bukhari Shariif}

The Messenger of Allaahu ta’aalaa {sall’Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} said: 'There is nobody who is afflicted with distress or grief and who says:

"Allaahumma inni 'abduka wa ibn 'abdika wa ibn amatika, naasiyati bi yadika maadin fiyya hukmuka 'adlun fiyya qadaa'uka, as'aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw asta'tharta bihi fi 'ilmi al-ghaybi 'indaka an taj'al al-Qur'aana rabee'a qalbi wa noor sadri wa jilaa'a huzni wa dhihaaba hammi

{O Allaahu ta’aalaa, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your maidservant, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is ever executed and Your decree over me is just.  I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or which you revealed in Your Book, or which You taught to any of Your creation, or which You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen with You, that You make the Qur'aan the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety}

Allaahu ta’aalaa will take away his distress and grief, and replace it with ease.' He {sahaaba} was asked, 'O Messenger of Allaahu ta’aalaa, should we not learn it?' He said, 'Of course, whoever hears it should learn it'

On base on these Hadiith ash-shariif our Peer-o-Mursheed Shamsul Mufassireen Faridul Asar Allaama Alhaaj Hadrath Syed Muhammed Omer Aamir Kaleemi Shah Noori Chisti-ul-Qadiri has find an easy way to memorise these Allaahu ta’aalaa's great names by way of dhikir as reading 3 times after Fazr Namaaz and 3 times after Maghrib Namaaz in "Dhikir-e Aamiria".  In Silsila-e Aamiria we use to dhikir daily one name of Allaahu ta'aalaa as {“Rahmaan” one day, next day will be “Raheem”, next to next day will be “Malick”, and so on} when we complete these 99 names, we will reach to 100th day which will be in name of "Allaah".  On this 100th day dhikir will run for 24 hours with out stopping, of course Farz Namaaz will be made on times by Grace of Allaahu Rahmaan.

Alhamdulillaah! "Allaahu Dhikir" has been started in the year “1966” and it’s carrying as on with great success under our Sarkaar Qibla's guidance for past 43 years, the great thing was, while our Sarkaar Qibla was in "Madinatul Munawwarah" this "Allaahu Day" falls and dhikir has been carried on with great success, with this we can understand that even in Darbaar of our Aaqa {sall'Allaahu ta’aalaa alaihi wa’sallam} this Allaahu dhikir has been maqbool, Alhamdulillaah!

Now we reached to 161st Allaahu, which will be held on “May 14th, 2010 at “ALLAAHU HALL” Nallanna Mudali Street, Royapettah, Chennai – 600 014. INDIA”.
